Whether for racing or just cruising, inshore or offshore, the creation of one-off sailboats of all sizes possessing continuity in a particular design characteristic has been the hallmark of Vaton designing since the office’s beginnings. The architect’s design philosophy is based on one dominant consideration – ensuring simplicity and ease: easy steering of particularly well-balanced racing units and easy cruising in the many highly-safe centreboard yachts the office has designed. The high-tech maxi-catamarans provide fast, even very fast, sailing – but still uphold the fundamental concept of ease and simplicity.

The Vaton design office has real know-how in light-alloy construction; experience gleaned over a 30 years period of activity. Whilst not abandoning the continued use of light-alloy, recent units built at the H2O boatyard have developed the use of sophisticated composite techniques e.g. fibreglass – aramid fibre – wood – epoxy, whilst in other units carbon composites as used in the top competitions have also been exploited.
